Where the papers sit

14 papers study mortality directly. Those 14 are one subject: Cross-Disease Risk Prediction. Risk prediction spans biomarkers, wearable mobility, AI models, and real-world treatment associations across liver disease, cancer, sepsis, HIV, diabetes, and post-COVID cohorts. The work remains focused on estimating mortality and major outcomes rather than converging on one mechanism or intervention. No way of splitting those 14 scores better than chance. 1 new direction follows.

NEW DIRECTION

AI-based mortality prediction is evaluated as a population-level clinical intervention rather than merely as a prognostic endpoint

The Korean intensive-care study of an AI-based mortality-prediction strategy treated mortality prediction not simply as a risk estimate or model-performance target, but as an intervention whose implementation could alter lifetime costs and quality-adjusted survival. It found that activating the strategy at ICU admission was cost-effective, with an incremental cost-effectiveness ratio below the stated societal willingness-to-pay threshold. This makes mortality prediction itself a subject of health-economic adoption decisions, extending its role beyond the prognostic and outcome-measurement uses represented by the other papers 42612087Aug.

Recent Findings on Mortality

Clinical Risk and Prognosis: Persistent mild alkaline phosphatase elevation predicted mortality and major adverse liver outcomes in MASLD, including low- and intermediate-risk FIB-4 groups 42748409Sep. Epicardial adipose tissue, diabetic foot ulcer occurrence, low albumin, impaired activities of daily living, and renal dysfunction also identified patients with higher mortality risk across cardiometabolic and cancer cohorts 42267655Jun42482123Jul42456539Jul. Phoenix Sepsis Score, cholangitis nomograms, and XGBoost-SHAP models showed useful discrimination for mortality, readmission, and adverse events, but their retrospective or internally validated results require external validation 42547621Aug42714037Sep42384558Jul. Wearable-derived postdischarge step counts strongly stratified 90-day readmission and mortality in metastatic cancer, although prospective intervention studies remain necessary 42726154Sep. AI-based ICU prediction appeared cost-effective in a Korean decision model, while the HIV literature is still awaiting systematic assessment of predictive performance, bias, reporting, and clinical readiness 42612087Aug42612074Aug. Comparative findings remain outcome-specific: BNT162b2 vaccination was associated with lower mortality than SARS-CoV-2 infection, GLP-1 receptor agonists showed lower all-cause mortality without a significant 3-point MACE difference, and intervention for giant intracranial aneurysms showed better survival than conservative management 42607625Aug42581431Aug42414088Jul. Caribbean data further show rising type 2 diabetes incidence among younger people, with high BMI contributing most of the DALY burden 42600892Aug.
